My input is 9V, I’m using the power supply that came with the P40 demo board. Hello, All I have is a cap between the output and ground at 22uf.

If you aren’t running very much current, and your Vin isn’t too high, a small clip-on heat sink can significantly reduce the regulator’s temperature.

Similar Threads Program works fine alone but not as part of a larger program. Groups is subject to http: There is another possibility Your use of Yahoo! Keep in mind the adapter you have may be putting out more than 9 volts, or may not have a very clean output, both of which will make the regulator datasheey hot. The power in Watts being dissipated within the regulator is the voltage drop across the regulator times the current passing through it.

Let us know if this solves the problem? I can’t find a schematic of it. Many of the regulators require capacitance lm2940c-5 the input and output to minimize oscillation.

Hi All, I have a PIC application 16f88 and 2 leds that is working fine with a from National and a 6 volts 1 amper battery. Bob Edit oops Bruce has just giving this info. Friday, December 05, I switched back to the and everything worked again!!!

I thought that the LMCT5 was better than thebut is not. The only things being powered in the circuit is the stamp and the LCD. Is ths just because of the load placed on it due to the lcd?

The burn your finger kind of hot. I believe the data sheets show a 0.

Regards, -Bruce tech at rentron. The time now is Results 1 to 5 of 5. I cannot find out why is not working.

It’s interesting that mine gets this hot when I have seen schematics using the same setup, with a 10uf cap even. I couldn’t find a datasheet for the LMCT5, but, some LDO types require specific capacitor values on the output or they will oscillate, and datsaheet causes major problems.

Basic Stamp List Subject: Just in case, tried another one, nothing happened. I found a data sheet on the LM, and it looks like you need at least 22uF on the output, and lm2940cg-5 will be around 0.

Larger values of output capacitance will give improved transient response. The acceptable range of ESR plotted versus load current is shown in the graph below.

works fine, LMCT5 not!

Typically, LCD displays take very little, but I’m not familiar with the unit you’re using. The ESR of the output capacitor will cause loop instability if it is too high or too low.

If too little or none they can oscillate which may not show on your meter? That would work alright. Here’s a snip from p.
