He intends for his stay there to be brief, no more than four months, but many years later he is still there, dutifully following the regular routine and hoping for a moment of glorious battle. I probably wouldn’t pick this up to read it again, but I definitely didn’t mind reading once.
I’m really pissed by my lack of reading Italian authors and I have no idea why this is happening. Lo peor, en serio.

I abandoned two novels by Umberto Eco which I’m determined to actually read one day and I browsed Dante and Boccaccio a long time ago. Story of the exploits of a dreamy soldier Drogo, who is sent to the outdoor fort of Bastiani, adjoining a desert, behind which the Tartars pos.
Mi rendo conto che Buzzati non fa per me, in molti hanno apprezzato questo romanzo ma io l’ho trovato ridondante e spaventosamente lento. The sickness of disappointment.

I’d recommend it if the plot seems interesting. The meandering narrative drifts between dreamlike dfsierto depicting Drogo’s inner life and more workmanlike sections replicating the pedestrian nature of external life at the fort.
Well, I reread it a month or two ago and I was disappointed. Dino Buzzati Traverso was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for Corriere della Sera.
Buzzati, io ci ho provato, ma non abbiamo tartaors niente in comune Drogo comes under the spell of the old fort and its archaic life, and ultimately remains there for decades. It may even have benefited from that context, given that I, like its protagonist, was all but consumed by waiting.
